The horror novel titled ‘The Howling’ by Gary Brandner garnered enough interest amongst fans to warrant the attention of Hollywood. Soon enough, the big-screen adaptation took place, and Joe Dante ’s ‘The Howling’ was an exciting project that was loosely based on the source material. It was credited by many for revolutionizing werewolf movies for the audience. This movie was released in 1981 and it was quite a successful venture. However, ‘An American Werewolf in London’ was released the same year, and it stole much of the thunder from ‘The Howling’. Nevertheless, it was still a profitable release, and the tidy gains made sure that sequels were soon along the way.
