Scenes From My Homemade Horror Movies (1986-1988)

When I was a kid I was obsessed with horror movies and wanted desperately to write and direct my own. Growing up in a small town in the 1980’s, VHS video camcorders were still a pretty big luxury item and we didn’t own one. Come to think of it, I didn’t know ANYONE who did.
But we lived near a VHS rental store and they happened to have a camcorder that you could rent for $10.00 per day (or $25.00 for a weekend).

Every year or so I would save up some extra cash, rent the video camera for a weekend and attempt to get my friends to act in my lo-fi horror films. Usually, about half way through these productions, my friends would get fed up with me playing director and ordering them around so they would either quit or start messing around and screwing up scenes until I quit.
On a couple occasions, after everyone else had bailed, I even attempted to finish the filming by myself, climbing in and out of different clothing so I could play both the victim AND the masked killer!

This video is a compilation of scenes from my many failed attempts at creating a 1980’s horror classic.

Background music performed and recorded by me.

P.S. I was particularly obsessed with Jason Voorhees and the Friday the 13th movies when I was a kid and actually did manage to finish one homemade “Friday the 13th” film.
